03:35 pm - Desert City Death Distro's website is going down.... But no worries, a new one will be coming up soon.
I was recently made aware that the original site (www.desertcitydeathdistro.150m.com) had a bunch of spyware and viruses on it from the shitty free web hosting site that I was using. And I got an offer from an awesome person to host the DCD site on their server for free! Yay!
SO.....I am taking the orig DCD site down for now. I will post a blog of our catalog on this myspace page. If you want to order zines, you'll have to order them from the myspace for now (you can check out how to order zines from DCD on this blog, see below). I am currently working on putting up a new site with no crazy popups, viruses, or spyware. Yuck-o.
The new site will be rad. I promise.
Until then, keep updated on DCD goings on from our myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/desertcitydeathdistro) or from this Livejournal
cheers! Current Location: Phoenix Current Mood: busy Current Music: Otis Redding

10:22 pm - Desert City Death Distro is going to APE! That's right, your friends at Desert City Death Distro are heading up to San Francisco for the annual Alternative Publishers Exposition (affectionately known as APE) on November 1 and November 2.
Here's more info:
When? SATURDAY November 1 11:00am-7:00pm
SUNDAY November 2 11:00am-6:00pm
Where? The Concourse 620 7th Street San Francisco
The Alternative Press Expo, affectionately known as APE, moves to the fall this year. Held once again in its home of many years, San Francisco's Concourse (620 7th Street), APE is November 1 and 2, right after Halloween. Come to San Francisco early, and celebrate that spookiest of holidays in the beautiful city by the Bay before hitting the APE Exhibit Hall!
APE is one of the country's largest gatherings of the best in indie comics, offering a venue for exhibitors ranging from self-publishers of minicomics to such large publishers as SLG Publishing, Fantagraphics, Drawn and Quarterly, Oni Press, Top Shelf, and many more. It offers a huge collection of some of the best indie and alternative comics material out there: graphic novels, zines, art books, prints, original art, and comics of every size and shape. You can't walk through the giant APE Exhibit Hall and not be inspired to either open your wallet and buy cool stuff or go home and hunker down and create some of your own. It's that kind of show.
The special guest list for APE 2008 includes Jessica Abel (La Perdida), Paige Braddock (Jane's World), Megan Kelso (The Squirrel Mother), Matt Madden (99 Ways to Tell a Story), Ethan Nicolle (Chumble Spuzz, courtesy of SLG Publishing), and Chris Ware (The ACME Novelty Library). As always, APE will be filled to the rafters with a whole slew of other amazing artists, writers, and creators. APE 2008 memberships are available only at the event A one-day membership (for either Saturday OR Sunday) is $10; a two-day membership for both days is $15. Attendees who present their 2008 Comic-Con International San Diego badge get in for free. Comics Retailers with a valid business card also get in for free. APE 2008 hours are Saturday, November 1, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM; Sunday, November 2, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

02:12 pm - uh hi haha ok so you'll never believe that for the past few months i totally forgot all about this!!
oops
oh well. SO i guess i will update more
I've updated the website, I have many more zines out now through Desert City which is exciting!! I also am selling zines in Phoenix at the Trunk Space on Grand and at the Paper Heart (every third saturday of the month during the Modest Proposal comedy show - which you should check out anyways)
I am in talks with some local phoenix establishments to sell zines through them as well.
Here is some info on the newest zines added to DCD catalog:
Brutally Morbid Axe of Satan - No. 4, 26pages, full size, FROM PHOENIX ahh what can I say about BMAOS that hasn’t been said a million times before. Strange? Bizarre? Surreal (all those words mean the same thing don’t they?).....dare I say entertaining? This issue was brought to you by your editor Fluffy P. Hamsterlicker, and contributors The Shit, the Cockmaster general, and Bob. Definitely check out the Gay Nazi Emo band New Blind Nationals'. Bizarrely entertaining as hell. Price: $2.00
CELSO - No. 3, 25 pages, 1/2 size Celso #3 is a beautifully drawn comic about Timmy, our mute protagonist. It’s his birthday and he sets out into the most rundown parts of town with his deaf, wheelchair bound, grandpa and an intoxicated, yet surprisingly poetic crow. Along the way they run into a sleeping giant capable of great evil yet “a gentle creature at its fundamental nature”. This is a really beautiful comic. Price: $1.00
Faux Kiss - 33pages, 1/2 size FROM PHOENIX It seems more and more really great zines are coming out of Phoenix. Faux Kiss is one of those. It’s a comic about a really simple kinda twisted but sweet story of two people. My only disappointment in this zine is that it doesn’t go on - it should be 700 pages. Really beautifully drawn. This is one of those zines that has made me really happy to be in Phoenix right now. I RECOMMEND THIS ZINE IF YOU LIIKE COMICS AND IF YOU DON'T!!! Price: $2.00
Gretchen - Issue No. 8, 23 pages, 1/4 size Putting a human touch to social services in the U.S. This is a touching and sad tale of a woman trying to help those who need it, those who refuse it, and those who are beyond it. Just like Gretchen No. 6, this issue leaves you thinking. Price: $1.00
Hooray for Brandon! - 22pages, 1/2 size FROM PHOENIX Brandon's neurotic drawings about everyday life are portrayed in his new comic Hooray For Brandon! His running comic of Ben the uninteresting tofu square, brand-name association, and his fake trip to Japan are all featured in this new zine. Hilarious! Price: $1.00
Your Invisible City - No. 3, 70 pages, 1/2 size FROM PHOENIX This issue is chock full of stuff. We've got interviews with Phoenix zine queen Chelsea Hodson, Abe from Treasure Mammal, some of the fellas from Avenue of the Arts, Drew from Ash Avenue comics, and Donald on the Shizz.org. Featuring photography by Sarah Kennard and writing by Kevin Patterson and Keith M. It's an interactive issue with Dan's Bad Day Coloring Book and why Cornado High School's art program is way better than your's ever was. A short review of a Fatigo show by Zach Vogt and don't forget to d.i.y yo-self fool - How to Stencil. Check it out!!! Price: $1.00
The Leading Brand - 61pages, 1/2 size FROM PHOENIX Our neurotic protagonist is back! From the creator of Hoorray for Brandon! comes The Leading Brand. This zine is chock full of Brandon's quirky little drawings and stories...such as the first time he had sex, things he is afraid of (mouth itching fruit), his ideas for star wars shirts (hint - he likes Woody Allen), things that were rejected from previous submissions to other mags, and more. Price: $2.00
The Lower Forty Eight, Issue No. 1, 70 pages, Full size - FROM PHOENIX This is one of the most interesting personal zines that I have read in a long time. It chronicles Jack's journey from Alaska to Arizona and all the states in between (hence the zine's title). It deals with the loss of his friends, gaining back his children, meeting his fiancé, bio-diesel, jack shacks, tattoo removal methods, and shitting into an old white racist's laundry basket. A very large zine with lots to read. Price: $1.00
Modest Proposal - No.5, 47 pages, full size FROM PHOENIX A comedy mag that doesn’t try too hard and is actually funny? Impossible you say? I say not. Let me introduce you to Modest Proposal. The best thing to come out of phoenix since...well...er....Phoenix. You can't help but want to read a mag that has an article called "I fucking fucked Alec Baldwin in the Ass". There are interviews with New Maximum Donkey, Marc Maron, and Chris Fairbanks among others. Articles on the Christers (the bad boyz of Christian rock), and the first time Ryan, MP's editor, lied about getting laid. Hilarious. Price: $3.00
One Foot In the Grave Spring 05 - 45 pages, 1/2 size, FROM TUCSON One Foot in the Grave is one of those zines that leaves an impression on you because it has something to say. The zine focuses on aging and keeping the ideals and beliefs you had when you were young for the rest of your life. To illustrate this, the zine features interviews with people over 30 still humbly working at being better human beings and enlightening the world. Price: $1.00
Razorcake No. 23, 112 pages, full size From their website: We're a knowledgeable bunch of ruffians who've been listening to, involved with, and slogging it out in a music world that doesn't usually get a lot of coverage. Most of our staff have been inside the making of music for more than a decade -- from being in bands, to being DJs, to publishing their own works. You can't fake the knowledge of people who not only know what they're writing about, but have witnessed it firsthand. That all said, at Razorcake, we like lots of types of music and don't restrict our coverage to a specific scene. There is just way too much good stuff spread across the musical spectrum, and there's no compelling reason not to cover it just because it isn't punk, or whateverthefuck gets your undies in a twist. Issue No. 23 features: interviews with the Ergs Ken Dirtnap Loud PipesBalzac Modern Machines Wednesday Night Heroes Columns by Liz O., Art Fuentes, Nardwuar the Human Serviette, and Ben Snackepit. As always there are zine, video, book, and record reviews. Price: $4.00
Razorcake No. 24, 112 pages, Full size Interviews and features with Ultraman, Punks in Movies, Alice Bag, Baseball Furies, Van Iva, and Smalltown. Columns by the regulars Liz O., Art Fuentes, Rev. Norb, Nardwuar the Human Serviette, and the Rhythm Chicken. Zine, records, video, and book reviews are included. Price: $4.00
Suburban Blight - Issue No. 3, 30 pages, 1/2 size Suburban Blight is a magazine of sorts. Each issue focuses on different topics and offers up different viewpoints from different authors. Issue number 3 focuses on religion – notably Christianity. The articles are really good. I’m not writing that just because I am trying to sell the zine but this was one of the first zines that I really learned from Not that I am a scholar on religion or anything but I really learned a lot from this zine. I found myself talking to people about the articles and showing the zine to them. I have to say it was enlightening. Price: $1.00
Suburban Blight - Issue No. 4, 30 pages, 1/2 size While issue no.3 focused on religion issue no.4 of Suburban Blight doesn’t really have a clear theme, but never the less, the articles are once again top notch. I guess you could say that the underlying theme to this issue is examining the signs around you. Articles titled “The Power of Words”, The Facade of Debate”, and “The Logic of Withdrawal” are all really excellent. Plus there are lengthy features on Feminism and Alternative Religions and The Genocide in Rwanda. And for entertainment there are CD reviews, DVD reviews (of the white stripes and Cat Power DVDs) and a Sleater Kinney show review. Price: $1.00
The Way It Is - Issue No. 1, 18 pages, 1/2 size This zine opens up with the story of a birth. The author's birth of her son Killian was a profound experience. Even though it was at a birthing center she felt it was still not how she wanted her son to be born. Thus begins the zine which is about the authors experiences in dealing with raising her son the way she wants to raise him, not the way mainstream society deems. Why does a mother have to justify at every turn that she wants to raise her son vegan for his first year? This zine is journal of a first time mother....appropriate for anyone. Price: $1.00
All these zines can be purchased by sending the price money in a well-concealed envelope to Desert City Death P.O. Box 2325 Phoenix, AZ 85002 along with a note stating which zines you are purchasing (name and issue No.) The price listed is all you pay - no postage!! yay!!
New updates on zines: Your Invisible City is releasing a split zine with Modest Proposal titled 5.5 on July 16th at the Paper Heart - come at 9pm for the MP show and zine release party and afterwards hang out and get shitty .....
